Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 24) — President Rodrigo Duterte stood firm his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, will not follow in his footsteps and run for president in 2022.

The Duterte patriarch made the statement after Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel told the President that someone from the administration should run and continue his legacy.

"Ang request po namin may continuity. Dapat isa sa administration ang ko-continue lahat ng ginawa niyo po...So dapat kumbishin natin si Inday Sara o Senator Bong Go,” Pimentel said during a televised briefing Tuesday night.

[Translation: We request for continuity. Someone from the administration should continue everything that you have done....So we need to convince Inday Sara o Senator Bong Go.]

But Duterte maintained he will not allow his daughter to be his successor.

"Inday Sara is not running. I have really, really put my foot down. Naaawa ako sa anak ko (I feel sorry for my daughter)," he said.

A recent independent survey showed Duterte-Carpio is considered a frontrunner for both the presidential and vice-presidential race.

Duterte previously cautioned his daughter against running in 2022, claiming that being president is not a woman's job.

Banners have been found in some parts of the country expressing support for the Davao City mayor to become the next president.

Duterte-Carpio has said she could run, but in 2034.

Meanwhile, Duterte did not say anything about his former special assistant Senator Bong Go's plan in the next elections.

Go earlier said he will not run for a higher position in 2022.
