Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 26) — Motorists may soon have to pay for traversing the Skyway Stage 3 of conglomerate San Miguel Corp. as toll executives approved the provisional rates for the said elevated expressway.

The Toll Regulatory Board on Friday said it has given the green light to provisional rates for the Skyway Stage 3.

For Class 1 vehicles, which include cars, jeepneys, vans, and pick-ups, toll fees would be:

-Buendia to Sta. Mesa ₱105.00

-Sta Mesa to Ramon Magsaysay ₱30.00

-Ramon Magsaysay to NLEX Balintawak ₱129.00

-Buendia to NLEX Balintawak ₱264.00

Toll fees will be doubled for Class 2 vehicles, or buses, trucks and cars with trailers. Vehicles under Class 3—or large trucks—will have to shell out thrice the price of Class 1.

According to the TRB, the provisional toll fee matrix will be published once a week for three consecutive weeks.

TRB noted, however, that the approval of the provisional toll rates does not provide the go signal for toll operators to immediately start their collections.

Before SMC could collect toll charges, the TRB said the Skyway Stage 3 has to be at least 95% complete; the project should be able to operate safely and commercially; and the expressway must be equipped with a toll collection system.

"Upon compliance to the above stated requirements, the publication of the toll fee matrix and posting of the required bond, a TOP (Toll Operating Permit) may be issued together with the Notice to Start Collection," the TRB said.

SMC earlier said that the Skyway Stage 3 is already 97% complete, which the TRB said is now subject to evaluation and validation by its board.
