Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 12) - Senate President Tito Sotto said he is discussing with "some groups" as well as Senator Ping Lacson about possibly running for vice president.

"We are still talking about it," Sotto told CNN Philippines in a message when asked if he is eyeing the post in the 2022 elections.

Sotto added there are also discussions about Lacson running for president.

"There are also some groups talking to him (Lacson)," Sotto said. "If he so decides, I will surely support him for president."

Lacson earlier expressed his support for Sotto as his vice presidential pick, while refuting rumors he was pursuing the position.

"I am not entertaining the thought of running for [vice president]," Lacson tweeted. "[Senate President] Tito Sotto is my vice presidential bet and nobody else."

Lacson was responding to another tweet that mentioned he is presenting himself as a potential candidate for vice president. The tweet quoted Lacson as saying he sees Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as his top pick for president. But the senator stressed the quote was "so out of date," since it came from an interview back in August 2018. However, he did not directly say if the presidential daughter was still his bet for the country's top leader.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2022 elections is set for October.
