Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 18) — Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has proposed making vaccination among the conditions for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries claiming their cash aid.

Siguro po pwede natin pag-aralan kung isama na rin natin dun sa kondisyon para sa 4Ps eh yung pagbabakuna dahil sa andami pong nakikinabang diyan sa programang yan,” said the official during President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent public address.

[Translation: Perhaps we can look into including vaccination in the conditions for 4Ps given the huge number of individuals benefitting from this program.]

Kapag naisama natin sa condition na yan, marami pong mababakunahan lalong-lalo na sa hanay ng mahihirap,” the spokesman further explained.

[Translation: If we get to include this condition, more people will get vaccinated especially among the poor.]

Roque made the suggestion in relation to vaccine hesitancy, noting how this is a major challenge for their communication efforts regarding vaccination. He likewise emphasized the prioritization of indigents in the government’s vaccine drive, with Duterte himself reiterating his call for the vaccination of uniformed personnel and poor families as soon as possible.

Indigent individuals belong to the A5 priority sector in the national vaccination program.

Roque said his suggestion may also apply to future provision of financial assistance.

Dahil di natin alam kung magkakaroon nga tayo ng Bayanihan 3, siguro yung mga makakatanggap din ng ayuda, ikakabit na natin dun sa pagbabakuna,” he said, adding this will ensure more individuals can get receive COVID-19 shots.

Roque, however, emphasized this will be on a voluntary basis.

Di natin sila pinipilit. Kumbaga, magiging kondisyon kung gusto nila makatanggap ng ayuda,” said the official.

[Translation: We are not forcing them. Basically, it will be a condition if they want to receive cash aid.]
