Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 20)— The Philippines on Thursday received another batch of 500,000 doses of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.

This was confirmed by Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian in a social media post.

The newly arrived Sinovac doses were purchased by the national government.

“The newly procured vaccines bring the total number of vaccines supplied by China to the Philippines to 5.5 million, with more vaccines expected to arrive in the coming months,” the envoy said in a statement.

Philippine Ambassador to China Chito Sta. Romana earlier said the newly-delivered vaccines will be the last tranche of Sinovac doses that will arrive this May.

The government needs to inoculate at least 70 million Filipinos to achieve herd immunity. Officials earlier said the government targets to administer enough shots to achieve this in Metro Manila and eight other areas by November.
