Baguio City (CNN Philippines, May 30) — The Department of Tourism is hoping that tourists from NCR Plus would be allowed to visit Baguio City starting in June.

Alam naman natin na ang Baguio very dependent on tourists at dahil bawal ang travel from NCR Plus for leisure, marami talagang naapektuhan although they can accept naman from other areas na MGCQ dahil bawal pa ang NCR Plus,” said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat in an interview with CNN Philippines, on the day they conducted a technical inspection of different tourist sites in the country’s Summer Capital.

Starting next month, tourist sites in Baguio and Benguet will be open to tourists coming from areas under modified general community quarantine.

The identified tourist destinations are as follows:

Camp John Hay

Ili-Likha Artist Village

Rose Garden

Burnham Park

Mirador Hill

Haight's Place

Sakura Park

Northern Blossoms Farm

According to Puyat, if the IATF would allow travelers from NCR Plus to visit Baguio City, they would expect a significant increase in the number of tourists.

The DOT added that it is still up to the local government unit if they would waive COVID-19 testing upon entry to the different destinations, but it is recommended that tourists should get themselves tested.

Puyat said the IATF is expected to make the decision on Monday, May 31.

The DOT hopes that different tourist destinations across the country would also be opened to help the tourism sector bounce back from the effects of COVID-19.

Kung magbukas na by June 1, maraming turistang pupunta and they will be able to help the different tourist spots and hotels, 'yung mga restaurants because they are very reliant on tourists. So we are hoping that more tourists can go to Baguio and matutulungan ang mga businesses doon,” Puyat said.
