Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 11) – A total of 100,000 Sputnik V vaccine doses arrived in the country Friday night, the largest shipment of the Russian-made COVID-19 shots to reach the Philippines.

The Qatar Airways flight carrying the doses landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov led the delegation in welcoming the fresh batch of vaccine doses from Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier promised an increase in vaccine deliveries to the Philippines. Putin made the assurance during his virtual summit with President Rodrigo Duterte to mark the 45th year of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia on June 3.

The new shipment is in addition to 80,000 doses of Spuntik V received in batches last month.
