Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 26) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday praised Senate President Tito Sotto III, who plans to run for vice president in the 2022 polls and may become his rival if he decides to seek the second highest office in the country.

In his sixth and final State of the Nation Address, Duterte lauded Sotto, whom he said "can become a good vice president."

"With due respect to Senator Sotto, who's also running for the vice presidency, he is a capable man, a good man, and a Filipino," Duterte added,

Sotto first confirmed to CNN Philippines that he will run next year in tandem with Sen. Ping Lacson.
