Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 16) — The Department of Health on Monday announced it is shelving its plan to buy four "high-end 2-in-1 laptops" worth ₱700,000.

"To date, the procurement transaction was put on hold pending the result of further market study and prevailing market price for these laptops," Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega said in a media briefing.

Vega, the chief of the DOH's Administration and Financial Management Team, added the laptops were supposed to be procured to be used in knowledge management and information technology.

A document from the DOH Bids And Awards Committee dated Aug. 4 indicated the request for the best and final offer for the four laptops with accessories for ₱700,000 or ₱175,000 for each unit.

It made the rounds around the time the Commission on Audit released its report flagging "deficiencies" in the DOH's management of pandemic funds worth over ₱67 billion, noting that these contributed to the challenges faced by the agency in responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
