Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 13) — Medical frontliners and others who need to travel outside their home can again avail of the government's Libreng Sakay program.

"Ngayong araw, nagsimula nang magbigay ng Libreng Sakay sa iba't-ibang ruta sa Metro Manila, Region 1, Region 2 at Region 10," said the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in an advisory Monday.

[Translation: Today, Libreng Sakay will be offered in different routes in Metro Manila, Region 1, Region 2 and Region 10.]

The government implemented the free ride program to help commuters and drivers recover from the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the LTFRB has only released ₱1.5 billion of the ₱5.6 billion budget for the program as of end-June.

Under the program, the government compensates drivers and operators contracted to give free rides to the public.
