Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 14) – Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos on Tuesday announced his candidacy for the congressional post of Ilocos Norte's first district in the 2022 elections.

"I thank you for all the support and heed your call to serve our beloved province," Marcos said in a speech announcing his candidacy.

Sandro is the eldest son of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos, who previously announced his intent to seek a national position in next year's polls.

The 27-year-old Sandro is also the cousin of incumbent Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc.

He is expected to go up against the Fariñas family for the post. Ria Christina Fariñas - daughter of veteran politician and former congressman Rodolfo Fariñas - is the current representative of the province's first district.
