Senator Kiko Pangilinan says he underwent another RT-PCR test and is expecting the results by Monday.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 9) — Senator Kiko Pangilinan announced he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The vice presidential aspirant on Sunday said his RT-PCR test results released on Saturday night came as a “surprise” as he currently shows no symptoms.

“Surprised because I have zero symptoms. No cold or cough. No itchy throat. I was even able to run on the treadmill and do yoga stretching exercises last night before I learned of the test results,” he wrote on Instagram.

On Sunday morning, Pangilinan underwent antigen testing with his celebrity wife Sharon Cuneta and their children, where they all tested negative. To confirm infection, he said they took another RT-PCR test — which remains the gold standard — and are expecting the results by Monday.

“My doctor sister tells me with labs swamped with a tsunami of testing due to the surge, the possibility of contamination and a false positive is not remote. Hence, I have been retested today and we are awaiting the results,” he said.

In the meantime, the senator noted he and his family are under home isolation. He added all of them are fully vaccinated and are exhibiting no COVID-19 symptoms.
