Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 7) — Police on Thursday arrested a local radio announcer in Oriental Mindoro for alleged extortion.

PLtCoL Adonis Guzman, the regional police chief, identified the suspect as Edison Neo Mancera who works for 102.9 FM Radyo Natin in Oriental Mindoro, according to a report on the operation.

The report said Mancera was arrested in in Brgy. Lalud, Calapan City during a joint entraption operation of several police units.

A certain Adoracion Delgado and members of MIMAROPA PNP Press Corps filed a complaint against Mancera for allegedly extorting money from owners and operators of “Peryahan” for media protection, it added. Mancera reportedly used the names of the press corps members and other journalists for his illegal activities.

Seized during the operation were five pieces of P1,000.00 bill marked money, five pieces of P1,000.00 bill boodle money and two cellphones.

Mancera is now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Force Unit in Region IV-B for proper documentation. Appropriate charges are being prepared for filing in court.
