Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 1) — Incumbent Samar Governor Milagrosa Tan passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 61, her daughter Samar 2nd district Rep. Shareen Ann Tan confirmed.

In a Facebook post, the younger Tan said that her mother suffered from cardiac arrest while she was confined at St. Luke’s Hospital-Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.

She added that the governor was with her children before she died.

The governor’s remains will be flown to Samar once the weather condition improves. The wake and interment schedule will be announced soon.

Milagrosa served as representative of Samar’s second district before her daughter succeeded her in the 18th Congress.

Early this year, Milagrosa was convicted of eight counts of graft for anomalous purchase of emergency supplies without public bidding in Samar. In July, the anti-graft court affirmed her conviction.
