Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 10) — A magnitude-5.8 quake jolted Davao Oriental and nearby provincesTuesday afternoon.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that the quake struck 39 kilometers east of Davao Oriental's Governor Generoso town.

PHIVOLCS initially reported that the quake's strength was at magnitude 5.3, but later upgraded it.

The institute is not expecting damage from the quake, but said aftershocks are likely to occur.

Intensity V was felt in Governor Generoso and Mati in Davao Oriental, while Intensity IV was felt in Tarragona in Davao Oriental, Davao City, Tagum City, Panabo City and Davao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Intensity III was felt in Lebak in Sultan Kudarat, General Santos City, Alabael in Malapatan, Glan and Kiamba in Sarangani, HInatuan in Surigao del Sur, Bislig City, and Butuan City.

Intensity II was felt in San Francisco, Southern Leyte, Santa Cruz in Davao del Sur, Koronadal City, Magpet and Makilala in North Cotabato, Polomolok, Tupi and Surallah in South Cotabato, Malungon in Sarangani, Kalilangan in Bukidnon, Kidapawan City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is advising the public to remain alert and ensure their safety.
