Cebu City (CNN Philippines, February 27) – More than 250 houses were razed when a huge fire broke out in a congested portion of a village in this city on Wednesday night, authorities have reported.

Chief Inspector Noel Ababon of the Cebu City Fire Department said the blaze affected at least 600 families and destroyed 259 houses with combined estimated value of P1.5 million. The fire's origin is still not known, according to investigators.

Ababon reported no one died or got hurt as of late Wednesday.

Initial reports showed that the fire emanated from the house a certain Jerry Cabido in Sitio Santo Niño at around 7:05 p.m. The conflagration reached Task Force Bravo fire alarm level, indicating a need for at least 28 fire trucks to put it out.

Firefighters declared the fire under control before 9 p.m.
