Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 16) — There is one less coronavirus-free province in the country as Mountain Province reported its first COVID-19 case on Tuesday.

The patient is a man from Barangay Suquib, Besao town who had contact with a COVID-19 case who visited the municipality on June 6, said Mountain Province Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr.

Lacsawan in a statement added that the man was among the 22 "close contacts" of the infected visitor, and that they have all been isolated and swabbed.

He assured residents that local authorities are coordinating with other municipalities to prevent the spread of the virus.

The development in Mountain Province brings the number of COVID-free provinces down to 11.

Other areas which have not reported an infection include Quirino, Batanes, Aurora, Palawan, Masbate, Siquijor, Guimaras, Zamboanga Sibugay, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, and Tawi-Tawi.
