Sto. Niño, South Cotabato (CNN Philippines, July 10) — The mayor of Sto. Nino town in South Cotabato, who was part of President Rodrigo Duterte's 2016 narco list, was shot dead on Friday.

Witnesses said Mayor Pablo Matinong was shot by two gunmen on board a motorcycle at 8 a.m. Municipal Councilor Helen Fale said the local executive was gunned down while doing an inspection at the Libertad barangay hall.

The slain mayor had denied his involvement in the illegal drug trade.
