Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 16) — Authorities said a Filipino-American who resides in Zamboanga del Norte was abducted by armed men Wednesday night.

In a statement, the Philippine Army said they already sent out troops and is working with the local government unit to track the suspects and rescue 64-year-old Rex Triplet.

Initial investigation of the local police authorities revealed that Triplet was riding a black XRM motorbike with his 23-year-old wife Celsa Maani-Triplet. They were on their way home at Brgy. Piacan in the municipality of Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte at around 6 p.m.

While on the road, four armed male suspects wearing camouflage uniforms attempted to abduct both of them, but Celsa was able to escape and ask for help from officials of Brgy. Tapayan.

The kidnappers were reported to have fled to the hinterland of the said barangay.

A team headed by Police Lt. Roy Malayo, deputy chief of police, immediately proceeded to the area to track the suspects.
