Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 8) — Davao City has earned the title "Cacao Capital" of the Philippines for being the top producer of cacao beans, the Department of Agriculture declared on Tuesday.

The city in 2019 produced 2,289.74 metric tons of cacao, or 38 percent of the region's contribution of the chocolate source, the DA said.

The whole Davao region supplied 5,960.23 metric tons or 70.21 percent of the national yield last year, According to Philippine Statistics Authority data from 2015 to the present, the region's yield contributes an average of 80 percent to the total volume of cacao produced in the country.

The agency said it has extended assistance to cacao stakeholders under its High-Value Crops Development Program.
