Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 24) — A police officer allegedly involved in selling illegal firearms to criminal elements was killed in a shootout during an entrapment operation in Placer, Masbate on Saturday, the Philippine National 2Police said.

In a statement on Sunday, the PNP identified the suspect as Staff Sergeant Garfilo Pahilino, Jr., an intelligence operative at the Place Municipal Police Station.

“PNP-IMEG (Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group) operatives were about to arrest Pahilino, after he allegedly sold three units of caliber .38 revolver and one unit of Norinco caliber .45 pistol to a poseur buyer, when the suspect drew a gun and started shooting at the arresting officers,” the PNP said.

The arresting agents returned fire resulting in Pahilino’s death.

According to PNP-IMEG, Pahilino was also linked to the Bustillos drug group and was suspected to have protected some drug personalities in Masbate.

Also retrieved from Pahilino were his 9 mm pistol with two extra magazines and the buy-bust money topped by a marked bill.
