Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 1) -- Nueva Vizcaya Vice Governor Jose Tomas, Sr. tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

“By a twist of fate, while today is April Fool’s Day, my swab test result is not a joke,” said Tomas in a Facebook post.

“Yesterday, I had myself admitted to a hospital because of difficulty in breathing. Per protocol, the hospital conducted a rapid test on me, and the result indicated I am positive for COVID-19. My swab test from yesterday also arrived today indicating the same results,” he added.

The vice governor shared that he was experiencing flu in the past few days and had rapid tests twice since March 21, which both showed negative results.

He also said all his relatives and staffers whom he had interacted with in the past days have already undergone swab tests.

As of Thursday, Nueva Vizcaya has recorded 1,335 cases. The whole Cagayan Valley region has so far reported 15, 776 COVID-19 infections.
