Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 28) — The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro announced on Tuesday that some of its churches will be closed for 10 days after a number of their priests contracted the coronavirus.

In a social media post, Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Jose Cabantan said the following churches will be closed from April 28 until May 7: Jesus Nazareno Parish and San Isidro Labrador Parish both in Cagayan de Oro City, as well as Our Lady of Candelaria in the municipality of Tagoloan, Immaculada Concepcion Parish in Jasa-an, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Bobontugan, and Church of Santa Cruz in Laguindingan.

These churches will also undergo disinfection during the period.

“I humbly ask for understanding from our faithful, especially those directly affected, and for prayers for our priests who have fallen victims, and that no other priest may suffer the same fate,” he said.

Latest data from the Health department show that Northern Mindanao has 15,293 total COVID-19 cases, of which 837 are active.
