Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 19) — Jerrick Balanza has declared his intention of joining this year's PBA Rookie Draft after leading the Letran Knights to the NCAA Season 95 men's basketball title.

"I'll be joining the PBA Draft this coming December," he revealed to CNN Philippines Sports Desk in an exclusive phone interview.

The Knights ended the San Beda Red Lions' three-year reign with a gutsy Game 3 win in the finals Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena. Balanza topscored Letran with 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Winning the championship on his last playing year was more meaningful to Balanza who has gone through a lot of adversities in his young basketball career. He overcame a brain injury which sidelined him for most part of the past season.

"I'm really happy. I thank God for all the things that I have now and everything I've gone through. Those obstacles made me stronger," he said.

Balanza thanked the Letran community for being there when he needed support the most.

"When I got sick, the Letran community never left my side," he said.

The 2019 PBA Rookie Draft is scheduled on December 8.
