PBA: Magnolia picks up first victory, keeps NLEX winless

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 14) — The Magnolia Hotshots chalked up their first win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The Hotshots defeated the struggling NLEX Road Warriors, 98-88, Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Import James Farr and big man Ian Sangalang topscored for Magnolia with 24 points and 21 points, respectively.

The Road Warriors took a precarious two-point edge at the halftime break. However, they could not hang on with the lead as the Hotshots outscored them at the second half, 53-39.

Coming off a vacation, NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao was ejected in the fourth period for committing his second technical foul.

Jericho Cruz scored six points, eight assists, and three rebounds in his debut with the Road Warriors.

Tony Mitchell finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds for NLEX. They remained winless after six outings.

The Hotshots will next battle the Columbian Dyip on June 16 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. The Road Warriors, meanwhile, tackle the Meralco Bolts on June 19 at the MOA Arena.
