Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 13) — The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on Friday the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.

Despite the ongoing Philippine Cup inside the Philippine Basketball Association bubble, the league allowed Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, Mike Nieto, Allyn Bulanadi, and Rey Suerte to join the national team in the upcoming qualifiers in Manama, Bahrain.

They will be joined by Ange Kouame, Kobe Paras, brothers Juan and Javi Gomez De Liaño, and Dave Ildefonso, among others, as they battle Thailand on November 26.

Gilas Pilipinas defeated Indonesia, 100-70, in its lone qualifying game in February.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Managment of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has also given the go signal for the team to practice and prepare in its own bubble.

“After careful deliberation and taking into consideration the safety and health protocols of both countries involved, as well as the lifting by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the travel ban to Bahrain, we are pleased to inform you that the NTF has reconsidered its earlier position and hereby allows the participation of the SBP to the Qualifiers for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup,” the National Task Force Against COVID-19 said in a letter.

They will hold their training bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
