Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 7) — A historic title for top Filipino golfer Yuka Saso.

Saso clinched the US Women's Open championship on Monday (Philippine time) at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

The 19-year-old golf sensation beat Japan’s Nasa Hataoka in an aggregate playoff to win the title. The two Asian golfers scored a par in the first two holes of the playoff that forced the sudden death match.

Saso is the first Filipino to win in any of the LPGA Tour's five major championships. She also tied the record with South Korea’s Inbee Park for the youngest US Women's Open Champion at age 19.

Minutes after her win, she thanked her family and supporters, hoping to keep her winning momentum.

"To all my friends and fans back in the Philippines and Japan, I am really thankful. I hope I can do better, keep this going," she said.
