Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 20) – The Black Mamba-Army Lady Troopers displayed their veteran experience against the young BaliPure Purest Water Defenders to notch their first win in the 2021 PVL Open Conference on Tuesday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

Honey Royse Tubino ushered in the Lady Troopers' scoring attack with 19 points as they posted a four-set victory, 25-16, 25-27, 25-21, 26-24.

Army showed its experience early in the first set which they easily dominated with a nine-point lead.

The second set saw the resurgent BaliPure squad equalize the match, courtesy of the combined offensive arsenal of young guns Grazielle Bombita and Gen Casugod.

Jovelyn Gonzaga, who finished with 13 kills, complemented Tubino in a 9-1 scoring run late in the third frame to give the Lady Troopers a set advantage.

The fourth set was also tight as veteran spikers Tubino and Nene Bautista rained aces. A BaliPure error gave the Army a 20-18 lead, but the Water Defenders mounted a 6-3 run for a 24-23 lead as Casugod scored between wide open gaps.

BaliPure failed to force a deciding fifth set after a Gonzaga hit and two straight kills from another Army veteran Ging Balse-Pabayo.

Bombita led the Water Defenders in their opening game loss with 18 points, while Bernadette Flora added 15. Casugod also contributed 12 points in the valiant effort of the Rommel Abella-coached squad.

The Kungfu Reyes-mentored Army Lady Troopers are now at 1-1 in the latest team standings.
