(CNN Philippines, August 3) — Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio won silver after losing to Sena Irie in the women's featherweight final Tuesday in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Petecio abosrbed a tough unanimous decision loss to Irie in a thrilling conclusion of their fourth meeting on the international stage.

This win is the Philippines' first medal in boxing since Anthony Villanueva and Onyok Velasco nabbed one silver each in the 1964 and 1996 Summer Games in Tokyo and Atlanta, USA respectively.

The Philippines now has two medals in the Tokyo Olympics with the first gold coming from champion weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.

Petecio is set to receive at least ₱17 million from the Philippine government and private sector — ₱5 million through Republic Act 10699, ₱5 million each from San Miguel Corporation and MVP Sports Foundation, and ₱2 million from House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero.

Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam is also assured of at least a bronze medal but still has a chance for a gold.
