Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 12) – Lefty scorer Rey Nambatac delivered the winning clutch shot as the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters escaped with a 95-93 win over San Miguel Beermen in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup, Sunday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Nambatac, who finished with nine points in the game, made the game winner from a drive with 2.5 seconds left in the contest.

The buzzer-beating basket of Nambatac improved the Elasto Painters' chances for a possible top four finish heading to the playoffs with a 6-4 record.

"Our players preached consistency and discipline today. These guys really showed a great deal of effort, heart, and determination to pull out wins," said Rain or Shine head coach Chris Gavina.

The young guns of the Elasto Painters also made a significant role in their victory as rookie Santi Santillan led all scorers in the game with 21 points on a 7-of-9 shooting clip, while fellow rookie Anton Asistio added 11 points and seven assists.

Rain or Shine's third freshman Andrei Caracut also contributed his seven-point output in the squad's critical scoring run against the league powerhouse.

"We gained a lot of contributions from our rookies. They gave us the much needed point production," Gavina praised his rookies.

Javee Mocon continued to be the lead anchor of the Elasto Painters with his double-double production of 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Rain or Shine had a slow start in the first half as the talent-rich San Miguel squad led by as much as 11 points, led by the backcourt tandem of Terrence Romeo and CJ Perez.

The Elasto Painters finally had a taste of lead towards the end of the third quarter, but Perez and big man Mo Tautuaa spearheaded the offensive charge of the Beermen in the fourth canto.

In the final seconds of the game, six-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo converted two free-throw shots and Perez made a layup for a 93-all deadlock before the Nambatac game winner.

Romeo topscored for San Miguel with 20 while Perez and veteran forward Arwind Santos each chipped in 18 markers as the Beermen fell to a 5-3 slate.
