Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 5) – Filipino Japanese karateka Junna Tsukii clinched the gold medal in the women's kumite -50kg event of the 2021 Karate1 Premier League on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.

The 29-year-old Tsukii defeated Egypt's Areeg Rashed, 2-1, in the finals to win her third gold this year after ruling the Golden Belt Tournament in Serbia last March and the Karate1 Premier League leg in Lisbon last May.

Tsukii edged Austria's Aleksandra Grujic, Venezuela's Yorgelis Salazar, and hometown bet Reem Ahmed Salama before reaching the finals.

Tsukii, a 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, is now seventh in the world in her category in the latest World Karate Federation rankings.
